Gifted & Talented - Setup

Gifted & Talented - Setup

The entirety of the configuration for the Gifted and Talented plugin is done via a code set. The required code set is created during implementation. A single code set, GT Qualifications, holds the qualification criteria that students are evaluated against on the Matrix and “Second Look” pathways - this code set is editable by the school district.

The plugin recognizes three qualification pathways:
  1. Pathway 1: Automatic Entry - based on MAP national percentile scores (Reading, Mathematics, and Language Arts) entered directly on the meeting screen. This pathway is calculated automatically and is not driven by the code set.
  2. Pathway 2: Matrix Qualification - the student qualifies by meeting any two of a list of criteria. These criteria come from the GT Qualifications code set.
  3. Pathway 3: “Second Look” / 2e Pathway - for twice-exceptional students, ELL students, or those facing barriers; the student qualifies by meeting any two of a list of criteria. These criteria also come from the GT Qualifications code set.
Because Pathway 1 is automatic, the GT Qualifications code set supplies the criteria for Pathway 2 and Pathway 3 only.

Code Sets

Navigate to System Management -> Data -> Code Sets to add or edit the gifted and talented qualification criteria. (Note, Code Sets are only available in District Office mode.)

Select GT Qualifications from the Code Set drop-down. If it does not yet exist, click Add Code Set to create it, then add a code for each qualification criterion.

GT Qualifications

Each code in this set represents one qualification criterion that can be added to a student’s Matrix (Pathway 2) or “Second Look” (Pathway 3) review. The following values are used for every code:

  1. Code - Every option needs a unique code (in this code set). This is what is stored in the database.
  2. Display Value - This is the actual text that will be displayed for the criterion on the qualification screen and on printed reports.
  3. Alt Value 1 - This value assigns the criterion to a pathway. Enter 2 to make the criterion available on Pathway 2: Matrix Qualification, or enter 3 to make it available on Pathway 3: “Second Look” / 2e Pathway. A criterion only appears on the pathway that matches its Alt Value 1.
  4. Alt Value 2 - Reserved for future use. Leave this field empty.
The Order controls the sequence in which the criteria appear in the qualification drop-down.
