This article walks through a follow-up meeting - an Annual GT placement review or an Other meeting - that ends in Scenario C: Furlough or Exit from GT Services. Use this path when a student takes a temporary leave from the program or exits it entirely.
Meeting Documentation
Open the student's Gifted And Talented (GT) Program screen. In the Annual Meetings section, click New Meeting. The meeting opens as the Annual Gifted & Talented (GT) Review Meeting - Administrator Form.
- Enter the meeting Date, Time, and Location.
- Confirm the Participants. The GT Coordinator is added automatically; use Add Participant for others.
I. Welcome & The Big Picture
- Set the Meeting Purpose to Annual GT placement review (follow-up to a prior plan).
- Record the Overall Goldilocks Effect Check (Too Easy / Just Right / Too Hard) as an initial impression.
- Add any opening Notes.
II. Student Self-Reflection
Record the student's wins and highlights, challenges and frustrations, and their interests or ideas for next year.
- Check the quantitative data reviewed (Standardized Test Scores, District Benchmarks, Classroom Grades, or Other) and summarize it.
- Record Teacher Observations and set the Alignment Check (Yes / Partially / No) for how current performance matches GT service expectations.
IV. Determining the Path Forward - Scenario C
- Under Select Path, choose Scenario C: Furlough or Exit from GT Services. The Scenario C section and the Furlough & Exit Request Form appear.
- Select the Reason (Student interest has changed, Overextension/Stress, Service Model Mismatch, or Other).
- Record the Transition Plan / Notes.
- Set the Exit Date if it is an exit, but leave it blank if it is a furlough.
- Choose the Action Requested: a Temporary Furlough for a semester, a Temporary Furlough for a year, or a full Program Exit.
- Check any Reasons for Request that apply (change in interests, scheduling conflicts, workload/well-being, or program-format mismatch).
- Review the Statement of Understanding with the family. The printed form includes student and parent signature lines.
V. Socio-Emotional Check-In
Check any areas discussed (Perfectionism, Anxiety/Stress, Peer Relationships, Motivation, Balance of Commitments), set Concerns Identified (None / Monitor / Follow-up Needed), and note any recommended supports.
VI. Action Items & Closing
- Use Add Item to record any subject-specific action items.
- Set the Follow-up Date for furloughs. If this is not done, they will not pull into the Furlough report.
- Write a Closing Affirmation noting the student's strengths, growth, or contributions.
- Administrator reminders
- Before exiting or furloughing a student, follow the "No Surprises" rule: confirm the parent was contacted in advance, and note the messaging used around the gifted label. These reminders appear at the bottom of the meeting form.
Print the meeting documents
Return to the GT home screen. In the Annual Meetings table, the Printable Documents column shows both Meeting Document and - because this is a Scenario C meeting - a Furlough/Exit Form link.
Note: The Furlough/Exit Form printout is available only for Scenario C meetings.
